- The Rolex Cellini collection, taking the name from the famous Italian goldsmith and sculptor Benvenuto Cellini, was officially launched in 1968, starring as a line of non-Oyster luxury dresswatches. It might have been one of Rolex’s most overlooked series, yet the attention to craftsmanship makes Cellini watches a timeless classic.
- Since the mid-century, Rolex has been putting much focus on its professional utility watches. Instead of the bold and utilitarian designs, Cellini solely focuses on the aesthetical aspect of a timepiece. While pocket watches might not be in the trend, Rolex released the ref. 3761 in the 1990s, introducing a time-only pocket watch with neo-vintage impression.
- The present Cellini ref. 3761 is a straightforward timepiece with no excessive features. The Rolex gold crown gets one’s attention right away, matching the golden hour markers on the smooth white dial. The hour indexes are written in Roman numerals, paired with Breguet hands, further delivering the vintage aesthetic of the pocket watch.
- The pocket watch features a hinged caseback, allowing the appreciation of the Lépine style cal. 750 movement. Swiss | 1905Founded in 1905 England by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis as Wilsdorf & Davis, it soon became known as the Rolex Watch Company in 1915, moving its headquarters to Geneva in 1919. They would form the foundation for Rolex's Datejust and Day-Date, respectively introduced in 1945 and 1956, but also importantly for their sports watches, such as the Explorer, Submariner and GMT-Master launched in the mid-1950s.
One of its most famous models is the Cosmograph Daytona. Launched in 1963, these chronographs are without any doubt amongst the most iconic and coveted of all collectible wristwatches. Other key collectible models include their most complicated vintage watches, including references 8171 and 6062 with triple calendar and moon phase, "Jean Claude Killy" triple date chronograph models and the Submariner, including early "big-crown" models and military-issued variants.
