- Introduced in the 1990s, Audemars Piguet produced a singular series of dress watches distinguished by their unconventional inspiration: the golden era of automotive design. To date, five known variants have been identified, encompassing tributes to Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, and Mercedes-Benz, among others.
- These timepieces are exceptionally scarce and possess a distinctive appeal within the collector community. Each example is powered by an openworked automatic calibre, visible through a semi-skeletonized dial that affords glimpse of the movement's intricate architecture. Superimposed upon this mechanical tableau are finely engraved depictions of historically significant automobiles, executed with a precision and delicacy that bear witness to the manufacture's formidable decorative artistry.
- The present example is distinguished by a dial finely engraved in gold with the legendary Ferrari 315 S, the door bearing the race number '41', a direct reference to the very car piloted by Phil Hill en route to a remarkable first-place victory in the revered “Road America 500” of 1957.
- To the best of our knowledge, the present timepiece is fresh-to-the-market and the only example known with race number ‘41’ on engraved dial. A handful of other examples seen on the market are engraved with race number ‘532’. Preserved in excellent overall condition, with an attractive patina developed over time, this watch represents a compelling opportunity for discerning collectors, particularly those with a parallel passion for motoring heritage.
