Catalogue Essay

Upon its release in 2015, this watch became the world’s thinnest mechanical timepiece. Piaget reinterpreted its iconic Altiplano 900P, introducing a unique version at Only Watch 2015, fitted with striking red hands for the first time. By merging the hand-wound caliber with the case components, the design achieves a remarkable slenderness of just 3.65mm. This innovation draws inspiration from Piaget's very first ultra-thin movement, the caliber 9P created in 1957, and represents a crowning achievement in over half a century of expertise in ultra-thin watchmaking, a domain where Piaget excels.

Preserved in mint condition for nearly a decade, remarkably, the vibrant red hands have aged gracefully into a reddish-brown hue over the years. While the realm of ultra-thin watches has since become a competitive landscape among major watchmakers, it is Piaget that pioneered the technological innovations that continue to astound the community, showcasing their unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of thin watch design.

Piaget

Swiss | 1874

Creativity, audacity and know-how are the values that gave Piaget its international reputation and allowed the brand to distinguish itself in the world of fine watchmaking and precision. Founder Georges Edouard Piaget established the company in 1874 and manufactured watch movements. While Piaget is famously recognized today for their elaborate wristwatch and bangle designs, they also mastered the marriage of their high-quality, in-house-produced wristwatches and stunning pieces of jewelry.

Collectors consider the 1970s as Piaget's era of superb creativity and unbounded designs. During this highly creative period, the brand designed an impressive range of cuff and bracelet watches carved in gold and adorned with exotic hard stones. Admired by most as not only jewelry but also true works of art, the firm's hard stone dial watches remain the most iconic, recognizable and desirable among collectors.
