Perhaps one of the most coveted luxury sport watches, the Nautilus ref. 5711/1A became even more desirable as Patek Philippe announced its cessation earlier this year. Launched in 2006, it was released along with the ref. 5712 and 5980 in commemoration of the Nautilus’ 30th Anniversary. During its production, the evolution of the movement was detailed in three series:
First series (2006-2007): Fitted with calibre 315
Second series (2007-2019): Fitted with calibre 324 SC with Geneva Seal (pre-2010), and later with Patek Philippe seal (post-2010)
Third series (2019-2021): Fitted with calibre 26-330 SC with hack feature
Building on the original Jumbo Nautilus ref. 3700, the present 5711 features sweep center-seconds and a slightly larger case with a sapphire case back that invites the wearer to appreciate the movement inside. Sporting a crisp design with a subtly rounded octagonal bezel, the present example houses the LED-gendary Large Embossed Dial in blue, featuring 16 wider horizontal stripes rather than the usual 18.
The present ref. 5711 is part of the second series and is preserved in excellent overall condition. With “S S 06 2009” engraved on the caseback, this timepiece is certainly one that tells a story, most likely to commemorate a momentous personal event. Complete with its original accessories, this is a fantastic opportunity to acquire this discontinued gem while its demand and shortage of supply are ever rising.
Since its founding in 1839, this famous Geneva-based firm has been surprising its clientele with superbly crafted timepieces fitted with watchmaking's most prestigious complications. Traditional and conservative designs are found across Patek Philippe's watches made throughout their history — the utmost in understated elegance.
Well-known for the Graves Supercomplication — a highly complicated pocket watch that was the world’s most complicated watch for 50 years — this family-owned brand has earned a reputation of excellence around the world. Patek's complicated vintage watches hold the highest number of world records for results achieved at auction compared with any other brand. For collectors, key models include the reference 1518, the world's first serially produced perpetual calendar chronograph, and its successor, the reference 2499. Other famous models include perpetual calendars such as the ref. 1526, ref. 3448 and 3450, chronographs such as the reference 130, 530 and 1463, as well as reference 1436 and 1563 split seconds chronographs. Patek is also well-known for their classically styled, time-only "Calatrava" dress watches, and the "Nautilus," an iconic luxury sports watch first introduced in 1976 as the reference 3700 that is still in production today.
