A magnificent expression of Patek Philippe's enduring mastery of the chiming complication, Phillips is pleased to offer for the first time at our auction the ref. 5303R-001 Minute Repeater Tourbillon. First introduced as a special edition watch created for the Watch Art Grand Exhibition Singapore in 2019 (ref. 5303R-010), it represents a bold reimagining of one of horology's most revered and technically demanding creations. Here, the manufacture has chosen to reveal what has traditionally remained concealed, relocating the hammers and gongs to the dial side of the movement, thereby transforming the act of chiming from an aural experience alone into a fully visible spectacle of mechanical choreography.

At the heart of the ref. 5303 beats the cal. R TO 27 PS, a hand-wound tourbillon minute repeater that ranks among the most important and complicated movements ever produced for a wristwatch. Found in some of Patek Philippe's most celebrated chiming creations, including the revered and now discontinued ref. 3939, this calibre represents Genevan watchmaking at its most elevated. The finishing is tasteful and the overall effect, one of beauty that transcends mere complexity and approaches the realm of art.

The dial itself is a study in restrained elegance: an hour circle in black-lacquered sapphire crystal with white printed minute scale and powdered rose-gold markers; leaf-shaped hour and minute hands in blackened 18K white gold and a subsidiary seconds with leaf-shaped hand in 18K pink gold. The case, measuring 42mm in diameter, is executed in pink gold and white gold inlays with an engraved “leaf” pattern that beautifully translates to the architecture of the movement – a testament to the manufacture's enduring commitment to excellence in even the smallest details.

Offered in exceptional overall condition from the original owner and complete with its accompanying accessories sold at Tiffany & Co., the present ref. 5303R-001 is only the 2nd example to appear publicly, representing a rare opportunity for the discerning collector to acquire a watch that stands at the very pinnacle of Patek Philippe's horological achievement.

Patek Philippe

Swiss | 1839

Since its founding in 1839, this famous Geneva-based firm has been surprising its clientele with superbly crafted timepieces fitted with watchmaking's most prestigious complications. Traditional and conservative designs are found across Patek Philippe's watches made throughout their history — the utmost in understated elegance.

Well-known for the Graves Supercomplication — a highly complicated pocket watch that was the world’s most complicated watch for 50 years — this family-owned brand has earned a reputation of excellence around the world. Patek's complicated vintage watches hold the highest number of world records for results achieved at auction compared with any other brand. For collectors, key models include the reference 1518, the world's first serially produced perpetual calendar chronograph, and its successor, the reference 2499. Other famous models include perpetual calendars such as the ref. 1526, ref. 3448 and 3450, chronographs such as the reference 130, 530 and 1463, as well as reference 1436 and 1563 split seconds chronographs. Patek is also well-known for their classically styled, time-only "Calatrava" dress watches, and the "Nautilus," an iconic luxury sports watch first introduced in 1976 as the reference 3700 that is still in production today.
