A favourite amongst collectors, the Patek Philippe Ellipse has been an icon for decades. Part of the family but certainly the sibling that is not afraid to be bolder, the Grand Ellipse ref. 3589 was launched from 1970 to 1979. Ultra-thin and powered by one of the best self-winding LeCoultre based calibre 28-255 of its time which later can be found in the iconic Nautilus. A series of hardstone dial watches were made during its production, 3589/900 on strap and 3589/901 with an integrated bracelet. The stone dials were matched with a cabochon crown.
Extremely attractive and crafted in 18K white gold, the present ref. 3589/901 is fitted with a beautiful lapiz lazuli dial. Its integrated mesh bracelet is equally stunning and is known to be outsourced by Patek Philippe to Pforzheim in Germany or Vicenza in Italy.
A rare combination to appear in the market, this is one of only two known examples of the ref. 3589/901 in this configuration in public. According to our research another was made also in 1975 with consecutive case number 530’120 and a movement 23 numbers away 1’286’646.
Well preserved with an uncut bracelet giving the watch an incredible heft on the wrist. This piece is further confirmed by the Extract from the archives and made in 1975.
