The Patek Philippe reference 5013 holds a special place in Patek Philippe’s modern history. Created during the 1990s, it represented the continuation of the brand’s long tradition of producing highly complicated chiming watches, while introducing a more contemporary approach through its automatic movement and distinctive tonneau-shaped case. Combining a minute repeater, perpetual calendar, moon phase and retrograde date display, it became one of the most technically ambitious watches in the collection.

Behind the elegant exterior is the calibre R 27 PS QR, a movement developed specifically for the reference. With 515 components, it brought together several of Patek Philippe’s most demanding complications while maintaining the reliability of automatic winding. The 5013 was a significant milestone for the manufacture, marking the first time these complications were combined in this particular configuration.

The present example takes an already rare reference and makes it even more distinctive through its unusual black diamond-set dial, confirmed in the certificate of origin dated 2010. The deep black surface creates a striking contrast against the warmth of the pink gold case, while the baguette-cut and round diamonds add a discreet touch of luxury. This unusual configuration gives the watch a more contemporary personality compared to the more traditional examples of the reference.

Believed to be a special order and possibly unique, the present 5013R-014 is a particularly rare interpretation of one of Patek Philippe’s most impressive modern complications. Without a doubt, this present example is one of the most desirable examples of Patek Philippe’s iconic 5013.

Since its founding in 1839, this famous Geneva-based firm has been surprising its clientele with superbly crafted timepieces fitted with watchmaking's most prestigious complications. Traditional and conservative designs are found across Patek Philippe's watches made throughout their history — the utmost in understated elegance.

Well-known for the Graves Supercomplication — a highly complicated pocket watch that was the world’s most complicated watch for 50 years — this family-owned brand has earned a reputation of excellence around the world. Patek's complicated vintage watches hold the highest number of world records for results achieved at auction compared with any other brand. For collectors, key models include the reference 1518, the world's first serially produced perpetual calendar chronograph, and its successor, the reference 2499. Other famous models include perpetual calendars such as the ref. 1526, ref. 3448 and 3450, chronographs such as the reference 130, 530 and 1463, as well as reference 1436 and 1563 split seconds chronographs. Patek is also well-known for their classically styled, time-only "Calatrava" dress watches, and the "Nautilus," an iconic luxury sports watch first introduced in 1976 as the reference 3700 that is still in production today.
