• Made for the 2015 Patek Philippe Watch Art Grand Exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London
• Very rare – hardly ever seen reference
• Extremely well preserved and complete set
The 3940 was released in 1985 as a replacement to the reference 3450 with a newly designed modern case, which was less angular than its predecessors. Powered by what was then the all-new, ultra-thin calibre 240, Patek Philippe’s first movement to use a micro-rotor, it enabled an elegant and very thin case that fit tightly to the wrist.
In 2014 Patek Philippe celebrated their 175th anniversary with a global traveling exhibition showcasing over 400 Patek Philippe timepieces highlighting their technical, historical, and artisanal craftsmanship as well as the brand’s positioning within the world of haute horlogerie. Due to the success of the exhibition, Patek Philippe extended the schedule including London in 2015 at the Saatchi Gallery. For each location, the brand created a special collection of timepieces like the present 3940G “Saatchi Edition”.
The reference 3940G-029 was a new generation perpetual calendar wristwatch. The original reference 3940 was discontinued in 2007 and reintroduced in 2015 for the London Grand Exhibition. The present watch captivates with its stunning salmon dial, which complements the white gold case – a configuration not used by Patek Philippe before. While exact production numbers are not known some research suggests less than 20 examples were made.
The present watch is fresh-to-the-market and offered in outstanding condition, complete with its full suite of accessories.
