Catalogue Essay
The radially-brushed smoked grey dial reveals Patek Philippe's mastery of nuanced finishes. This monochromatic scheme modernizes the original rose gold version's aesthetic while maintaining its classic layout: subsidiary dials for moonphase with a delicate date hand circling the periphery (near 7 o'clock), power reserve (near 10 o'clock) and small seconds (near 4 o'clock).
Beneath the sapphire caseback lies the cal. 240 PS IRM C LU - a micro rotor movement shared only with the Nautilus ref. 5712. Updated with a silicon hairspring, this 2.53mm-thin mechanism continues Patek Philippe's tradition of refining rather than replacing successful calibers. The frosted commemorative engraving on the caseback maintains the anniversary significance without obstructing the view of Geneva Stripes and perlage decoration.
As both a tribute to Cortina's 25th anniversary model and a celebration of its 50th, this limited edition timepiece occupies a unique position in Patek Philippe's catalog. The soldered lugs and compact dimensions preserve 1990s design codes, while the contemporary dial finish and movement upgrades ensure its relevance today.

Patek's complicated vintage watches hold the highest number of world records for results achieved at auction compared with any other brand. For collectors, key models include the reference 1518, the world's first serially produced perpetual calendar chronograph, and its successor, the reference 2499. Other famous models include perpetual calendars such as the ref. 1526, ref. 3448 and 3450, chronographs such as the reference 130, 530 and 1463, as well as reference 1436 and 1563 split seconds chronographs. Patek is also well-known for their classically styled, time-only "Calatrava" dress watches, and the "Nautilus," an iconic luxury sports watch first introduced in 1976 as the reference 3700 that is still in production today.
