Catalogue Essay
The retrograde No.6 design draws inspiration from pressure gauges with elongated hands arcing across a minimalist display. Powered by a Miyota movement with an added in-house retrograde module, each component from the case to the three-dimensional coaxial hour and minute hands is meticulously crafted on decades-old manual machines in the atelier.
The present No. 6 is a one-of-a-kind piece made exclusively for Phillips “TOKI” auction. Named 東雲 “SHINONOME”, it refers to the sky just before dawn, when the sun begins to rise. Adopting a semi-skeletonized dial and a blackened stainless steel case, the timepiece is incredibly striking for its minimalistic design. Intriguing details such as the use of guitars strings on the retrograde movement can be subtly observed through the smoked sapphire crystal glass, befitting of its poetic name. With imaginative engineering and scrupulous finishing, this analog inspired timepiece revives mid-century aesthetics within a refined contemporary frame.
Please note that proceeds of the sale of the present watch will be given by the Consignor to Wajima Lacquerware Industry.
