The Ming 17.09 is striking and easy-to-wear modern Ming creation. Other than the finely textured dial and quintessential Ming markings, I would pay extra attention to the crown, which is particularly beautiful in its shape and finish. - Mark Cho

- As a keen representative of contemporary high horology, MING has been shaking up the watch community with their minimalist designs and quality movements. The 17.09 is no exception.
- Released in the spring of 2021, the 17.09 marks MING’s inaugural attempt to feature dials with laser-etched indices on the underside of the top crystal, filled with Super-Luminova-X1 for an intense glow. Delivered in two variants of Blue and Burgundy, both iterations are paired with a canvas boasting a Clous de Paris guilloche center and a circular brushed chapter ring that creates a dynamic presentation as it plays with the light.
- Encased in highly polished stainless steel, the case is embellished with iconic flared lugs that adheres strongly to the brand’s design DNA. With optimised ease of use in mind, the 17.09 is fitted with an independent jumping hour hand, which allows the wearer to change the hour indication without interrupting its running minutes. This simple yet compelling upgrade of the Schwarz-Etienne made cal. 330.M1 is designed for highflying collectors who frequently travel from one timezone to another, exclusively modified for MING.
- Like a palatable glass of full-bodied wine, the present 17.09 features a beautiful textural Burgundy dial and is offered in excellent overall condition with its original accessories.

Ming
Malaysian | 1986Ming Thein is the vision behind MING: he has a diverse background that bridges both the creative and corporate, with more than 10 years in strategy and finance and 20 years as a photographer, with seven as a full time professional. Ming was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1986, educated in Australia, New Zealand, and finally graduated with a masters’ degree in theoretical physics from Balliol College, Oxford at the age of 16.
Somewhere during the mechanical portions of his degree, he contracted the watch bug made worse by a Lange 1815 graduation gift from his parents. It would follow through his early career at KPMG and The Boston Consulting Group, where the generosity of online collector communities allowed him access to their events and watches. His contributions to the community were driven by knowledge (including numerous attempts at movement design) and photography: capturing a personal interpretation of a watch, Ming in a way made them his own and shared a different vision with the collector’s community
