Catalogue Essay
In the watch journalism world, I admire SJX and his team's coverage the most as it is dense in detail and technical content. I immediately signed up for his first collaboration watch in conjunction with Habring. It was my first dead seconds watch and the Rolex inspired star motif was a lovely touch. - Mark Cho

- Coveted for their technically brilliant creations, Habring2 is a multi-time Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) prize winner, founded by the Austrian husband-and-wife dual, Richard and Maria Habring. Having had a rewarding career at IWC in the 1990s, Richard was best known for his innovation with the condensed rattrapante mechanism and compact flying tourbillon that are both still employed in today’s IWC pieces.

- In 2021, the brand joined forces with SJX, the avid enthusiast of independent watchmaking and notable scholar, to create a pioneering model the market has not seen before. The Erwin "Star" was made as an exceedingly scarce limited edition and the present example is one of 50 pieces that was sold out within minutes after its launch.

- Paying homage to the horological greats of the 1950s, the Erwin "Star" undeniably takes cues from the Rolex ref. 6088 "Galaxy", an iconic reference that was designed to cater to the tastes and whims of the flavourful post-war era. Boasting a luscious blue dial, the gilt-brass star-set indexes are vividly highlighted against its background, creating strong depiction of a stellar starlit nightscape. Each star-shaped hour marker has been carefully stamped, diamond cut and gently polished to give them a brilliant faceted façade.

- Featuring a dead beat seconds complication, the present model is fitted with a calibre A11s, modified in-house based on the Valjoux 7750, beautifully finished with large perlage, complete with blued steel screws.

- Framed in a 38.5mm stainless steel case and preserved in excellent condition, the present Erwin "Star" is numbered 3 of the limited edition of 50 pieces, accompanied by all its original accessories.
