  • Description

The White Robe I and II diptych is a part of the Marina Abramović and Ulay’s last collaboration before they separated on the Great Wall of China during the performance The Lovers in 1988. Included in the traveling exhibition die Mond, der Sonne, the work was first exhibited at the Contemporary Art Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, in January 1987.

The duo created the composition as one of their first collectible works. Ulay orchestrated the demanding technical process of making the large-format Polaroid prints. The conceptual and performance artist who recently passed away continued to explore the Polaroid medium after his separation from Abramović.
