  • Catalogue Essay

The offered lot is a special edition, produced between 1932 and 1935, the time when Marcel Breuer was working for Embru and living in Switzerland.  This example was likely produced under his direct supervision.  There were very few special editions of this type of shelf, indicating that this shelf is either unique or was produced in a very limited series.  No other shelf exactly identical to the present lot is known.  Similar versions of these shelves were used in Le Corbusier’s Maison La Clarté in Geneva, 1931-1932.
