Catalogue Essay

Maître du Temps is a collaborative brand founded in 2005, with a philosophy centered on creating original horological masterpieces by uniting a group of independent watchmakers who blend their unique ideas and craftsmanship. The brand launched its first model in 2008: Chapter One, developed by Christoph Claret, Roger Dubuis and Peter Speake-Marin. Chapter Two followed in 2009, crafted by Daniel Roth, Peter Speake-Marin and Roger Dubuis. The present Chapter Three Reveal, introduced in 2012, is the brainchild of two of horology’s finest minds: Andreas Strehler and Kari Voutilainen.

Promising mystery, suspense and surprise, the Chapter Three appears deceptively simple at first glance, featuring a date display at 2 o’clock, moon phases at 4:30 and seconds at 8 o’clock. However, the name "Reveal" takes on its true meaning when the pusher on the crown is pressed, unveiling two panels that reveal a day/night roller at 12 o’clock and rollers for a second time zone at 6 o’clock. Home time is indicated through two rollers, each displaying six numbers; as the hour shifts from 6 to 7, the carriage holding the rollers shifts instantaneously, bringing the next roller into view. The pusher at 9 o’clock on the other hand, allows for desynchronization of the rollers when setting the local time.

This watch is special in its own right, with only 50 pieces produced in white gold, but this particular example is even more unique as it is a one-off piece commissioned for a private client. Instead of the traditional sun and moon, the rollers at 12 o’clock feature playful cartoon graphics for the day/night display.

The Chapter Three houses the caliber SHC03, developed specifically for this model, showcasing the harmonious DNA of each watchmaker involved. Turning the watch over reveals its exquisite movement with its unusual architecture, allowing for a clear view of the day/night and home time rollers and enhancing the understanding of their functionality.
