In 2009, Ludovic Ballouard embarked the greatest dream of every watchmaker with his very own brand. With the desire to produce a highly complicated and eccentric timepiece with utmost simplicity, the Upside Down was born. The elegant 41mm clean-cut case with 12 numerals classically displayed on the dial speaks beyond its surface with a poetic philosophy. “Only the present moment has a meaning”, the Upside down presents time with reminder of how important it is to live in the moment. The past and the future time is, literally, presented upside down to tell you that there should be no regrets about the past and no qualms for the unknown future.
A masterpiece of avant-garde innovation, this ingenious display of poetry is powered by a beautifully executed movement that can be admired on the reverse of the watch. Featuring twelve finely finished rotating Maltese cross discs attached by small pinons, the complexity of the movement in motion is truly fascinating to watch. When the central minute hand precisely passes 12 o’clock mark, the past hour number instantaneously jumps 180 degrees upside down to reveal the correct hour, hence an upright numeral with a clever indication of a dot beneath for quick reading.
