The Ocean 2000 ref. 3524 is an architectural masterpiece created by the collaboration between two powerhouses- IWC and Porsche. A dive watch like none other, it is not only aesthetically futuristic but is also made of titanium—the unorthodox ultra-light metal that is non-corrosive, antimagnetic and hypoallergenic. Granted this civilian watch is water-resistant up to 2000 meters deep, it was inspired by its predecessor, the official watch of the Kampfschwimmer- German combat divers, used for special unit underwater operations. Designed by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, creator of the iconic 911, every detail was carefully sculpted with form and function in mind. From its delicately domed crystal, the bead-blasted surfaces, to the perfectly integrated lugs, bracelet and clasp that completely conceal the connections between the links; this gave it its smooth and rounded appearance that feels organic. Encased in a softly chiselled diver’s bezel, the matte black dial sports an inconspicuous date window at 3 that is beautifully complemented by a tritium treated minute track.
Discontinued in 1998, the present example of this remarkable model is offered in excellent overall condition, an absolute gem for collectors of eccentric and historically relevant timepieces.
