Catalogue Essay
Known as one of the most recognised modern watchmakers, Gérald Genta is celebrated for bringing the Royal Oak and the Nautilus to life. At the young age of 38, the icon launched his own brand in 1969, implementing his creative designs under the Genta name. The early 2000s was a new era for the firm as Bulgari acquired the brand, preserving his legacy for esteemed ingenuity and unique creations.
The present wristwatch features a skeletonised dial that exposes its attractive brass plates with ‘Perlage’ finishes, encased in platinum and a palladium bezel. Starring a distinctive rounded Genta case, the transparent dial and caseback invite the wearer to admire the automatic calibre that sets this Grande Complication timepiece in motion. The apparent perpetual calendar is portrayed as a system of playful yet elegant discs, adding a dash of Genta’s personality for innovative interpretations of traditional complications. Complemented by the volumed hands and indexes in white, this is a highly legible hand-finished dial that is well-designed, perfectly fusing both form and function.
Offered in excellent overall conditions, the Arena Perpetual Calendar at hand is a fine specimen accompanied by its original leather document holder fitted presentation box and outer packaging.
