- The 1941 Principia is the first time-only watch with a self-winding mechanism by Grönefeld, named after the year of birth of the Dutch Horolofical Brothers’ father and Sir Issac Newton’s Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica (a.k.a. Principia). It features a completely original in-house automatic movement, finished and assembled by hand.
- The 1941 Principia is available in various dial choices. The present timepieces is fitted with a cream lacquer dial with Roman numerals instead of the baton-style hour markers. Paired with the signature blued extended Lancette hour and minute hands, it gives an elegant, vintage impression. The pink gold case with concave recesses shows that Grönefeld’s fine design in all aspects of the watch.
- The in-house movement cal. G-06 is fitted with a uni-directional winding mechanism weighted by a 22k gold monobloc rotor, the 226-part movement is made of stainless steel bridges replicating the facades of Dutch houses called “bell gables”, paying homage to the homeland of the Grönefeld brothers. The bridges are hand-bevelled, with the centres finished with micro-blast and adorned with relief engraving. Rotating on ceramic ball bearings, the rotor’s design prevents wear and eliminates the need for lubrication.
