The Balancier S marks an important chapter in Greubel Forsey’s evolution, bringing the independent watchmaker’s uncompromising approach to precision into a more contemporary and dynamic format. While the maison is widely celebrated for its tourbillon creations, this model demonstrates its ability to pursue chronometric performance through alternative solutions.
Presented here is the first piece in a limited edition of only 18 examples. The watch is distinguished by its lightweight titanium construction and sculptural case design. Measuring 45 mm, the case combines presence with surprising comfort, with curved surfaces and integrated lugs creating a fluid profile on the wrist. The result is a watch that feels distinctly modern, retaining the architectural identity that has become synonymous with Greubel Forsey.
The defining feature of the Balancier S is its inclined balance system, positioned at a 30° angle and visible through the open-worked dial. Developed as a pursuit of improved precision, the large variable-inertia balance wheel is designed to minimize the effects of gravity on the regulating organ, reflecting the same pursuit of accuracy that has guided the manufacture since its foundation. The balance is supported by a finely finished bridge, creating one of the most recognizable visual elements of the watch.
Limited to only 18 examples, with the present watch being the first of the series, this exceptional timepiece embodies the independent spirit and uncompromising pursuit of excellence that have established Greubel Forsey among the leading names in contemporary haute horlogerie.
Greubel Forsey
Swiss | 2004With the introduction of the Double Tourbillon 30 at Basel World in 2004, Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey became major players in the world of haute horology and independent watchmaking. Their firm concentrates on high-end complicated movements with precision timekeeping and the highest quality hand finishing. They achieve this with movements featuring multiple tourbillons and inclined balance wheels — tourbillons designed for wristwatches. Forsey joined Greubel's team at Renaud & Papi SA, a high-complication specialist now part of Audemars Piguet. The team participated with Harry Winston and their Opus 6 project. In the span of 12 years, the firm has become highly sought-after by collectors for their innovative timekeeping and industrial design.
