Since the Han dynasty, it has symbolized imperial authority and the emperor, depicted as the yang force of nature: governing spring, rain, and sunrise, and embodying the capacity to transform—appearing and vanishing, expanding and contracting, soaring skyward then retreating into the earth.

The present limited edition example depicting a purple Ming dynasty dragon with clouds, executed in platinum, is preserved in “like‑new” condition and accompanied by its full set of accessories.
