Catalogue Essay
The Mingdragon green is a limited edition of 90 pieces made of 18K pink gold. The present example features a finely crafted porcelain dial produced by Meissen Porcelain Manufactory, a renowned porcelain manufacturer in Germany. The present paper-thin dial, depicting a green dragon, is finely hand-painted by highly skilled craftsmen who have had at least 4 years of training and 10 years of experience. The Glashütte Original signature, Meissen’s crossed swords logo and numerals were also applied by hands of an expert in typography with the finest brushes.
The Chinese dragon is the most symbolically rich mythical creature in Chinese cosmology. Since the Han dynasty, it has represented imperial power and appeared widely in art. As the “first of the four wondrous beasts,” it embodies “yang”: the masculine, generative force of nature. The blue-green dragon rules the east, spring, sunrise, and rain, while its counterpart, the white tiger, governs the west and wind. Known for its transformative abilities, the dragon can shift size and visibility, reflecting cosmic change. Closely linked to clouds, rain, rivers, and thunder, dragon symbolizes nature’s dynamic rhythms and the harmony between heaven and earth.
The present example is offered in “like-new” condition along with its original certificate and accessories.
