Gérald Genta is a name that needs no introduction, as his prolific and distinctive designs speak for themselves. Having designed some of the most iconic models for top Swiss watchmakers, Genta established his own namesake brand in 1969. Under his own manufacture, he went on to produce some of the world’s most complicated wristwatches, including the Octo Grande Sonnerie Tourbillon as well as the Grande Sonnerie Retro and Petite Sonnerie.

Genta’s creations in the 1990s offered an array of extravagant timepieces, marking an era of bold experimentation with gem-setting, exotic materials and radical case geometries. Encased in an elegant 33mm octagonal yellow gold case, this reference G3022.7 features a possibly unique coral dial—a configuration unseen on the market since its last auction appearance in 2005. Natural coral watch dials are exceptionally rare and this example remains flawlessly preserved, completely free of cracks or fissures.

Viewing the timepiece from the reverse reveals a fully hand-assembled and hand-engraved automatic movement through the sapphire display back. Highly sophisticated, the movement combines a minute repeater with a perpetual calendar mechanism. Adding a fascinating personal touch, the winding rotor features the initials “LG” rather than the standard “GG” logo, suggesting a custom commission by the original owner.

Numbered 110 on the caseband and bearing movement number 13,000, this unique configuration was almost certainly a bespoke commission for an esteemed client of the maison. Having remained in a private collection for over 20 years, it has been scarcely worn and is preserved in the exact condition as when it last appeared at auction—offering a stellar opportunity for collectors of haute horlogerie by Gérald Genta.
