  • Catalogue Essay

    - Commencing his career in the early 1980's at Patek Philippe working alongside colleagues like Svend Andersen, in 1984 Franck Muller began to create his own wristwatches and in 1991 he launched his eponymous brand. Sharing a background at Patek, and admiring the Maison's elegant design, specifically chronographs, Franck Muller went on to design probably the most famous of his creation, the Double Sided Chronograph.

    - Showcasing a fusion of sophistication and skilled craftsmanship, the Double Sided Chronograph like the present example, features a guilloché dial, traditional design elements, and intricacy, complete with a split seconds chronograph movement and a pulsation measurement on the reverse side. Together with Grail Watch and Wei Koh (Revolution), Franck Muller re-introduced the present example, along side two other historical references, in a limited edition as an homage to its founder, maintaining not only faithful designs but also incorporating identical, new-old-stock movements.

    - The front gives full attention to the split seconds hand with classically placed subcounters at 3 and 9 and the hours/minutes indication in a counter at 6 o'clock. The back has an oversized, one-minute register with center seconds as well as a pulsometer, tachymeter and telemeter, operated by the chronograph buttons. Due to its large display, the scales are significantly easier to read than on an ordinary chronograph.

    - Preserved in excellent condition, and a true symbol of a bygone era where independent watchmaking was still in its infancy, the present Double Sided Chronograph is complete with its set of accessories and is further numbered 30 out of a limited edition 30 examples made.

    Franck Muller

    Swiss • 1991

Specializing in top-quality timepieces, Swiss watchmaking company Franck Muller was founded in 1991 in Geneva. The company was named after watchmaker Franck Muller, also known as the "Master of Complications," and Vartan Sirmakes, Co-Founder and CEO of the Franck Muller Group.
