  • Catalogue Essay

In September of 2003, F. P Journe opened its first Salon of Montres Journe in the heart of Tokyo’s Aoyama district (equivalent of the Parisian St. Germain-des-Prés), the brand’s flagship boutique housed in a minimalist building designed by the famed architect Tadao Ando sits a stone’s throw away from the serene Nezu museum.

While Manga certainly represents Japanese culture, their passion for motorsports is also well-known, and they are not alone. F. P. Journe also shares the passion for notably the Octa Sport INDY 500 in commemoration of Jean Alesi’s race as well as the LineSport series.

In 2019, the F. P Journe LineSport series broadens its catalogue with the release of two new Automatique Réserve AR2. Taking a notch towards a more subtle dial choice from its bright yellow titanium siblings, the AR2 were available in platinum with blue dial and 18K pink gold with slate grey dial. Sized at 44mm diameter with a new heft, the surface of the entire timepiece down to the bracelet is refined with a matte hammered finishing emphasizing a contemporary sportive aspect.

Featuring a beautiful guilloché ruthenium dial with applied matching gold numerals, the layout is enhanced with optimal readability where the date and day and night indication is larger.

Preserved in excellent overall condition and accompanied by its guarantee and box, the present timepiece is an example from 2021 sold from the famed Tokyo boutique.

  • Artist Biography

    F.P. Journe

    Swiss • 1999

Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.

Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
