Good To Know:
- Early perpetual calendar by Daniel Roth in 1990s
- 18K white gold case paired with grey guilloché dial
- Numbered 28
- Full set with certificate and box
In the early 1990s, Daniel Roth set out to create his own perpetual calendar wristwatch. Around the same time, in 1992, legendary watchmaker Philippe Dufour announced his decision to work completely independently and craft timepieces under his own name. Living and working just down the road from one another in the Vallée de Joux, a collaboration between these two masters was virtually inevitable.
Together, the two master watchmakers developed the Daniel Roth Perpetual Calendar. They chose the reliable, ultra-thin Lemania cal. 8810 as a base movement, which Dufour modified to fit seamlessly within the unique geometry of Roth’s signature double-ellipse case. Cased in sleek 18K white gold, this rare iteration utilizes two apertures for the day and month displays to execute a semi-instantaneous perpetual calendar, directly pre-dating the brand's later fully instantaneous mechanism.
Numbered 28, this timepiece is an early production example featuring an original Daniel Roth dial finished in grey ruthenium with vertical linear guilloché. The design beautifully reflects the classic, refined aesthetic Roth developed through his extensive study of Abraham-Louis Breguet’s historic work. Offered in excellent overall condition and accompanied by its original certificate and presentation box, this watch represents a compelling proposition for collectors due to its elegance, legibility, rarity and profound historical significance.
