Full-Cataloguing
Good to know:
- The only unnumbered platinum example to appear in the market
- Unnumbered example is key trait for prototypes
- Girard-Perregaux GP3000 based cal. DR 101
Roth’s timepieces are higly recognizable, with traces that might seem to be inspired when he was at his former residence, such as dial layouts and decorative patterns. There is a very distinctive feature that identifies a timepiece by Roth, that is the ellipsocurvex-shaped case, which is rarely seen elsewhere. The present watch perfectly illustrates the signature design elements of Roth, complimenting the case are the hands with pointed tips and a Clous de Paris guilloché dial.
After the Tourbillon in 1989, Daniel Roth revisited some of the classic watch complications, working on a dual-pusher and mono-pusher chronograph, followed by a self-winding dual-pusher chronograph. The present watch is a prototype of the Masters Chronograph, in which the standard production model was commercially released in 1995. Cased in platinum, this watch features a typical Roth dial layout, yet it bears no case number or “Numero” signature like other early models, and other similar un-numbered Daniel Roth watches are known as prototypes. The mid-sized chronograph are only known in white gold, hence this example in platinum and unnumbered is extremely rare and fresh to the market.
Using base movements such as Frederic Piguet, Lemania or Jaeger-LeCoultre, the calibers where then heavily modified and finished in the workshops with particular care. For the present example, it houses the cal. DR101, which is a Girard-Perregaux GP3000 based movement modified with a chronograph module.
Offered in excellent condition, this early work of Daniel Roth is a considerable collection for watch collectors who appreciate a watch with strong character and nicely decorated dial.
