GOOD TO KNOW

- One of a limited edition of 35 pieces only
- Weighing 277g of 18K yellow gold
- Celebrating the 35th anniversary of G Shock in 2018

To commemorate the 35th anniversary of G-SHOCK in 2018, Casio launched the Dream Project, showcasing the G-D5000 in 18K yellow gold, and released the long-anticipated watch in 2020. It is a heavy watch as the whole watch is constructed in gold, from the case to the clasp, and even the tiny screws and bracelet bars within. Being produced in a limited number of 35 pieces, it was sold out instantly, making it one of the most desired G-SHOCKS in the market.

The G-D5000 is not only a change in building materials, it had also gone through countless thoughts, trials and errors to achieve the shock absorbing criteria. Kikuo Ibe says the usual G-SHOCK consists of a urethane case, due to the nature of the material shock absorption can be easily achieved, yet the G-D5000 in solid gold which is even 1.5 times heavier than stainless steel models is a huge challenge in doing so. By using the new SHELL shock absorption structure, together with the effort of craftsmen, they finally met the objective. Hence, the G-D5000 is a merge of multi functionality and prestigious luxury.

As a high-end collector’s item, the watch is offered with a traditional Japanese made paulownia wood kiri-bako stamped with a Hanko seal translates to “Gravity Dream Project”. Within the kiri-bako, it is a Nanbu Tekki cast iron kettle made by the renowned Oigen Foundry in Oshu, Japan. The underside of the kettle lid is marked with the appearance of the G-D5000, showing it is an exclusively made ironware for the Dream Project watch by the foundry.

It is not an item that surfaces regularly on the market, without doubt it is the grail watch for Casio collectors and watch lovers.
