- When the brand released the Cartier Privée Collection Paris (CPCP) in 1998, it offered an opportunity to update and modernize some of their most cherished and iconic designs. The Tank Normale was introduced in 1919 as the first commercially available Tank watch with its inspiration drawn from the geometry of the Renault FT-17 tank’s parallel track. The model was a departure from the ornate pocket watches of the era embracing a modern and architectural form of the new century.
-Released in 2023, the present Tank Normale is a limited edition 18K yellow gold model with satin brushed silvered dial and manual wind caliber 070 with a 36 hour power reserve. The model was also offered in platinum and both examples were sold with either a bracelet or crocodile strap.
-The present Tank Normale is numbered 154 of 200 pieces and offered in near new condition. It is accompanied by its full suite of accessories and is a faithful representation of the original Cartier Tank watch first released in 1919.
Cartier
FrenchWith the Constitution of 1848 came a new standard for luxury in France. Founded one year prior by Louis-Francois Cartier, the house of Cartier was one of the first to use platinum in jewelry making. This incredibly expensive material became the stepping-stone for Cartier to experiment in form, mechanisms and attitude. It helped men move from pocket watches to wristwatches, effectively making the watch much more functional and prominent in a man's overall wardrobe.
Cartier did not only touch on functionality. Inspired by a commissioned painting by George Barbier featuring a black panther at the feet of an elegantly bejeweled woman, Cartier began incorporating wild animals in his designs—most notably, Cartier Panthère rings, bangle bracelets and watches. Yet it wasn't until the late 1960s that the house of Cartier debuted their iconic yellow and rose gold LOVE collection, which includes the famous bracelet that only a special screwdriver can open.
