Catalogue Essay
- In 1921, Cartier launched the Tank Cintrée which was the largest and boldest adaptation to the iconic tank wristwatch. As the name Cintrée suggested, this tank variation features an arching case, it is aesthetically pleasing and comfortable to wear. After celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Tank in 2017, the following year at the SIHH 2018, Cartier introduced three historically inspired Tank Cintrée models, available in yellow gold, pink gold and platinum.

- The present Tank Cintrée is the revival of the iconic dresswatch with a touch of modernity. The case is as thin as 7.2mm, with the satin-brushed sides and dipped down lugs of the slightly arching case, the watch wraps elegantly on your wrist. The crown is tipped with a blue cabochon, a typical touch of a Cartier dresswatch.

- Contrasted to the pink gold case is the charcoal, black dial with stick and Arabic numerals in a hint of early Art Deco impression. Only the number 12 and 6 are in Arabic numerals, creating a clean yet strong visual centre point. It also has hands that correspond to the colour of the pink gold case.

- The Tank Cintrée uses the Cartier calibre 8971 MC, which is a rebranded Jaeger-Coultre calibre 846/1 movement. Known to be reliable, the compact and thin size of the movement makes it the desirable fit for the rectangular icon.

- The present watch kept in excellent overall condition is the ideal timepiece for Cartier connoisseurs that appreciate historic vintage models with a twist of contemporary adaptation.

Cartier

French

With the Constitution of 1848 came a new standard for luxury in France. Founded one year prior by Louis-Francois Cartier, the house of Cartier was one of the first to use platinum in jewelry making. This incredibly expensive material became the stepping-stone for Cartier to experiment in form, mechanisms and attitude. It helped men move from pocket watches to wristwatches, effectively making the watch much more functional and prominent in a man's overall wardrobe.

Cartier did not only touch on functionality. Inspired by a commissioned painting by George Barbier featuring a black panther at the feet of an elegantly bejeweled woman, Cartier began incorporating wild animals in his designs—most notably, Cartier Panthère rings, bangle bracelets and watches. Yet it wasn't until the late 1960s that the house of Cartier debuted their iconic yellow and rose gold LOVE collection, which includes the famous bracelet that only a special screwdriver can open.
