A master of technical innovation, Abraham-Louis Breguet is credited with developing some of watchmaking’s most inspiring complications - from the tourbillon and its gravitational compensation for precision timing, to shock protection, and self-winding watches. He sought to revolutionize horology both mechanically and aesthetically setting the foundation for a classic design that was uncluttered and today is recognisable and undeniably Breguet. The brand’s Classique line is the pure expression of the man with hand finished guilloché dials, Breguet hands, examples with coin-edged cases and off-center dials. The collection was developed at the end of the 20th century in an effort to reinforce Breguet’s timelessness.
Dating to 1998, the present reference 3617 timepiece is a pure representation of the Breguet DNA. The watch is mechanically complex with both perpetual calendar and chronograph with legible guilloché dial with polished chapter ring. The calendar is indicated through the subsidiary dials with the date combined with the 30 minute chronograph register, day of the week, with the seconds subsidiary dial and months combined with leap year indication. Perpetual calendar chronographs are one of the most technically challenging mechanisms a brand can produce and are highly sought after by collectors. Breguet’s reference 3617, with its timeless aesthetic and multiple complications, represents a direct line the master watchmaker himself. The watch is complete with accessories and Breguet extract.
Breguet
Swiss | 1775Established in 1775 by Abraham Louis Breguet, widely considered the greatest watchmaker of all time, the storied brand continues to thrive in the modern era, creating exceptional high-end watches as the Swatch Group's premier prestige brand. Some of the most important and lasting inventions in watchmaking are attributed to Abraham Louis Breguet, including the tourbillon, shock resistance and the use of hammers and gongs employed in nearly all minute repeating watches made since.
Eighteenth and nineteenth century Breguet pocketwatches are especially sought-after by collectors, and many of them were made for the elite of European society, including Napoléon and Marie Antoinette. Key wristwatches from the twentieth century include oversized dress watches, two-register chronographs, triple calendars and Type XX aviator's chronographs made for the French military and civilians.
