The Breguet XX was first commissioned by the French Army in 1954 as a tool watch used for navigational purposes, however today it has transcended in to the civilian realm with a vintage vibe collectors seek. The watch has a mid-20th century aesthetic that is as modern today as it was 65 years ago. It is because of this appeal that Breguet still manufactures the Type XX, however like the present timepiece with a more advanced complicated movement. The reference 3880, also known as, the Type XXII is at the apex of 21st technology with a high frequency 10Hz chronograph.
Released in 2011, Breguet created a chronograph capable of 72,000 VPH for achieving higher accuracy and greater resolution. The central chronograph hand rotates at 30 seconds per full dial pass, allowing for 1/10 of a second readings along with a red diamond tipped half minute totalizer. The movement has a silicon escapement and flat balance spring and a visual inspection of the escape wheel through a peep hole in the case back confirms the high frequency speed.
The 44mm diameter enhances the sporty motif of the dial, which is dark brown with white and red accents. The hour markers are white and red as well and give the dial a three dimensional feels. The present watch is in like new condition and is a very modern updated of a true classic.
