Catalogue Essay

- The reference 15202 from Audemars Piguet is a direct successor to the original Royal Oak reference 5402. It was launched in 2000 and re-issued in 2012 to commemorate its 40th anniversary. The reference 15202 is equipped with the same caliber 2121 movement, which has been in use for 50 years. This movement not only provides the wearer with an interesting quick-set date function but also maintains the watch's ultra-thin profile.

- Staying true to the design of the reference 5402, the reference 15202 incorporates all the original elements, including the slender case, tapisserie dial, Royal Oak bracelet, and automatic movement. The sapphire crystal display back reveals a new skeletonized rotor that offers an unobstructed view of the movement.

- The reference 15202 is available in two dial variations. Earlier versions feature the AP logo at 12 o'clock, while the original reference 5402 and the present example display the AP logo at the lower part of the dial.

- This model comes complete with a full set of accessories but has now been discontinued, making it even more desirable among collectors. In 2022, it was succeeded by the reference 16202, which was released to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Royal Oak collection.

Audemars Piguet

Swiss | 1881

A specialist in the manufacture of complications since it was established in 1881, Audemars Piguet never ceases to impress with a rich history of creating bold, even audacious, timepieces underpinned by traditional watchmaking at its finest. This Le Brassus-based Swiss manufacturer is one of only two major manufacturers still owned by the founding family. Since its earliest days, AP is considered a leader in the field of minute repeaters and grande complication pocket and wristwatches. The brand is devoted to preserving the history of watchmaking in the Vallée de Joux, showcased at their superb museum in Le Brassus.

Today, the brand is best known for its Royal Oak models, a revolutionary luxury sports watch launched in 1972. Other key models include early minute repeating wristwatches, vintage chronograph wristwatches, such as the oversized reference 5020, perpetual calendar watches and the Royal Oak Offshore, first introduced in 1993.
