Audemars Piguet has long pioneered tourbillon technology, becoming in 1986 the first to fit this complex mechanism into an ultra-thin wristwatch case. Following the success of the first self-winding tourbillon wristwatch ref. 25643, Audemars Piguet released the ref. 25819 in the mid 1990s by featuring the tourbillon complication cased within the Art Deco inspired rectangular Edward Piguet case.
Named after the co-founder of the brand, the Edward Puguet series of watches are seemingly often overlooked. The distinctive rectangular-shaped case differs from the usual round and octagonal construct seen in other watches, posing it as an alternative classy option in Audemars Piguet’s line of dress watches.
Visible through an aperture on the engine-turned dial, the tourbillon is extremely well-finished with captivating aesthetics. Matched with a mixture of baton indexes and Breguet numerals paired with pencil hands, the present watch displays characteristics of a classic dress watch with a touch of modernity. Flipping over the watch, one can see the fausses côtes decorated cal. 2871, a well finished movement of the brands new generation of tourbillon movement in the mid 1990s.
Although the exact number is not revealed, the present watch engraved with the number 13 suggests that it was one of the earlier pieces made. Until the discontinuation of the model in the early 2000s, only a handful of the reference were seen on the auction market. Offered in excellent condition with its original accessories, this lovely timepiece continues Audemars Piguet's tradition of masterful watchmaking and reinvention of possibility.
