Catalogue Essay

The tourbillon, a specialty of Audemars Piguet, first graced the Royal Oak in 1997 to celebrate the model's 25th anniversary. The classic architecture of the tourbillon cage features bridges at the front, but today, the latest evolution is revealed with an automatic flying tourbillon movement. The remarkable cal. 2950 is the first to combine a self-winding mechanism with a flying tourbillon architecture, a complication previously seen in the Royal Oak Concept line. Audemars Piguet has truly integrated this "concept" into the Royal Oak collection.

Fitted with an attractive sandblasted slate grey dial, it differs from the usual “Tapisserie” pattern but offers an understated and modern aesthetics to the watch. Adding to its allure, the light and robust titanium case exudes a captivating dark hue, enhancing the dial's visual impact. Undoubtedly a remarkable piece of craftsmanship and extremely wearable, this watch is further kept in excellent condition with minimal wear and complete with its full set of accessories.

Audemars Piguet

Swiss | 1881

A specialist in the manufacture of complications since it was established in 1881, Audemars Piguet never ceases to impress with a rich history of creating bold, even audacious, timepieces underpinned by traditional watchmaking at its finest. This Le Brassus-based Swiss manufacturer is one of only two major manufacturers still owned by the founding family. Since its earliest days, AP is considered a leader in the field of minute repeaters and grande complication pocket and wristwatches. The brand is devoted to preserving the history of watchmaking in the Vallée de Joux, showcased at their superb museum in Le Brassus.

Today, the brand is best known for its Royal Oak models, a revolutionary luxury sports watch launched in 1972. Other key models include early minute repeating wristwatches, vintage chronograph wristwatches, such as the oversized reference 5020, perpetual calendar watches and the Royal Oak Offshore, first introduced in 1993.
