Catalogue Essay
• The UK based microbrand Anoma produces sculptural timepieces with a bold and unconventional aesthetic. The name, short for “anomaly”, echoes the brand’s philosophy to defy traditional watchmaking. Based on a modernized vintage inspiration, their A1 First Series draws its design from a free form table created by the designer Charlotte Perriand, along with works by the modernist sculptor Constantin Brancusi and organic forms. Anoma’s love story with this design began a few years ago, when they first discovered one of these tables at an antique gallery in Paris. It forms the foundation of the A1.
• The polished asymmetrical triangular case is reminiscent of designs by famed designer, Gilbert Albert, who is well-known in haute horlogerie for his highly sought after timepieces from the mid-20th century. The seamless design with hidden crown and lugs is perfectly matched to the offset brushed lacquered blue dial with its crosshair design, giving the watch a modern appeal. Easily wearable and comfortable on the wrist, the A1 exemplifies the artistic nature of the brand.
• The present watch is offered for the first time at auction by the original owner and is complete with its full suite of accessories.
