The New York Watch Auction: EIGHT takes place on June 10 and 11, inside our Manhattan headquarters at 432 Park Avenue. The auction includes more than 120 of the world's finest watches; here, we highlight a unique Zenith El Primero Chronograph with all proceeds going to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a leading nonprofit breast cancer organization based.

Watches often serve as a welcome distraction from the more difficult things in life. Whether it’s work frustrations or other stresses, our love for watches can offer a tangible respite from the pressures of the daily grind. When nothing else makes sense, the steady swing of a balance wheel can offer a reassuring tick.

There are certain occasions when watches can offer more than comfort (and the time). Some watches can do actual quantifiable good in the world, whether it’s through raising awareness for a cause, funds for one, or both.

Our friends at Zenith created a watch that qualifies for the latter.

Lot 70: The Zenith Chronomaster Original Pink Unique Piece available in the New York Watch Auction: EIGHT. Estimate: USD $8,000 - 16,000

Zenith released the Chronomaster Original Pink last fall with a promise. The watch would only be available for sale during the month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Zenith would donate 20 percent of all the proceeds for the watch directly to Susan G Komen for the Cure, a leading nonprofit breast cancer organization based in the United States.

The National Cancer Institute lists breast cancer as the most diagnosed cancer type in the United States. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that approximately 264,000 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women each year in the United States, with 16 percent of that total ultimately succumbing to the disease.

The advocacy work and fundraising done by groups such as Susan G. Komen for the Cure is incredibly important. It keeps the fight against cancer front of mind for individuals worldwide, whether it's through encouraging check-ups and screenings or helping diagnosed patients navigate the medical system.

In support of Susan G. Komen’s work and in honor of those suffering from breast cancer worldwide, Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo is proud to partner with Zenith on the sale of the Chronomaster Original Pink Unique Piece, with 100 percent of the result going directly to supporting Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The Chronomaster Original Pink Unique Piece is an evolution of last October’s special-edition release, featuring the addition of 56 brilliant-cut diamonds spread out across the front-facing portions of the four lugs. Diamonds can sometimes be overly flashy, but the restrained use of them on only the lugs of the watch adds a bit of subtle flair without going over the top. The watch also comes with a certificate from Zenith confirming it’s a unique piece as well as the opportunity to select an additional watch strap from Zenith’s catalog at no extra cost.

The watch retains the matte metallic pink dial found on the Chronomaster Original Pink, as well as the classic 38mm case profile that is a modern interpretation of Zenith’s original A386 chronograph from 1969. The movement inside is, of course, the self-winding high-frequency El Primero.
