Inspired by Jean-Jacques Audubon’s “Bird’s of America”, Vacheron Constantin released 10 watches depicting ten different birds, in a total of 100 limited edition pieces, paying tribute to the artist. This is another brilliant example depicting the small heron – snowy egret.
Amongst the elite contemporary enamellists that Vacheron Constantin works with, Anita Porchet and Muriel Séchaud could be regarded as two of the most recognizable names. The present timepiece is seen with the “M. Séchaud 98” signature between 5 and 6 o’clock, suggesting that this delicate cloisonné enamel dial was crafted by the enamellist in 1998. Illustrated with a full scenic background, the small snowy egret is seen standing on its contrasting yellow feet in the middle of the dial peeking afar. The snowy egret was slaughtered for its plumes in the 19th century, when Audubon published his book. Now, thanks to active protection measures, the bird has grown rapidly in its numbers.
Housed within the yellow gold is the ultra-thin self-winding cal. 1120/2, stamped with the proud Geneva Seal, proving its outstanding quality in the mechanical details. The movement is fitted with a skeletonized self-winding rotor featuring the Maltese cross and hand-engraved details throughout. Offered in very well-preserved condition, the watch has been kept in its original owner’s collection with its factory stickers still intact, accompanied by its full accessories. This is truly a fascinating piece of exceptional craftsmanship and fine watchmaking that shall not be overlooked.
