Vacheron Constantin
Ref. 46003
222
A well-preserved and rare stainless steel wristwatch with date, center seconds, integrated bracelet and certificate
Full-Cataloguing
The ref. 46003 measures 34mm in diameter and is just over 7mm thick. Structurally speaking, the case is a monocoque, or unibody, setting it apart from other similar sports watches in the period with its almost entirely flat case back and slender profile. Because of its unique case and bracelet design, this quiet giant has a wrist presence that wears more prominent than its dimensions would otherwise suggest, wrapping itself around the wrist.
Echoing its stainless steel exterior, the dark grey sigma dial matches the case and features applied, tritium-filled hour markers, complemented by polished baton hands with luminous inserts, and a date aperture at 3 o’clock with the original date disc.
Unlike the “Jumbo” version of the Vacheron 222, powered by the ultra-slim cal. 1121, this “mid-size” version is driven by the cal. 1124, based on the Jaeger-LeCoultre 889. Produced 1987, it is from the last batches of this model before it ceased production in the following year and according to Vacheron Constantin, only 343 examples were made in steel for this reference.
Vacheron Constantin
Swiss | 1755The world's oldest watch brand in continuous operation since its founding in 1755, Vacheron Constantin was the first watch company to manufacture movements with interchangeable parts beginning in 1839. Vacheron's watches are admired for their Latin-influenced case designs, well-balanced proportions and exquisitely finished movements of the highest quality. The Geneva-based manufacturer is known for their highly complicated masterpieces, including the King Farouk Grand Complication made in 1935, the Tour de l'Ile that was the most complicated serially produced wristwatch when introduced in 2005 and the 57260 — the world’s most complicated watch — made in 2015.
Key vintage models include minute repeating wristwatches such as the references 4261, chronographs such as the references 4178 and 6087 and the oversized Cioccolotone models such as ref. 4737. Collectors also appreciate Vacheron's Chronometer Royal pocket and wristwatches, as well as the '222,' the brand's first luxury sports watch produced from 1977 through 1984.
