Good to know:
- Fresh-to-the-market with its original accessories
- Unconventional time display and time-keeping adjustments
- Innovative 7-day Tourbillon Carrousel and Dual Direct Escapement invented by Dr. Ludwig Oechslin
The renowned marine chronometer manufacturer Ulysse Nardin impressed the horological community when the Freak was released in 2001. The watch was an unconventional take on mechanical watchmaking, envisioned by Rolf Schnyder, the concept of awarded watchmaker Carole Forestier-Kasapi was transformed into reality through the hands of Dr. Ludwig Oechslin, with the invention of the 7-Day Tourbillon Carrousel and Dual Direct Escapement.
The present watch is a white gold variation of the first generation of the Freak. Housing the in-house cal. UN 01, the watch is able to carry out the idea of a timepiece with “no dial, no crown, no hand”. Time is indicated by the rotation of the movement, with the lower bridge indicating the hour, while the upper bridge revolves once every hour and indicates the minute. The balance wheel assembly in most tourbillons completes a rotation in a cage every minute, while the Freak, rotates as a whole once every hour. The movement's impressive seven-day power reserve is wound by rotating the case back, while time-setting is accomplished through the bezel - ingenious solutions that eliminate the need for a traditional crown. The captivating mechanics feature Ulysse Nardin's pioneering use of silicon components in the Duel Direct Escapement, significantly reducing friction and increasing efficiency for enhanced precision and longevity.
A remarkable, innovative timepiece, the Freak marked the dawn of mechanical watchmaking in the new millennium. The original owner presented this outstanding horological masterpiece, numbered 208, in excellent condition. It is the perfect watch for collectors who are looking for a watch that represents the start of a new era in watchmaking.
