Catalogue Essay
The history of the Heuer Skipper, or more famously known "Skipperera" commenced with the American skipper Emil Mosbacher on board of the "Intrepid" who whilst wearing a Heuer chronograph won the 20th edition of the America’s Cup in 1967. A year later, in 1968, Heuer launched the Carrera Skipper reference 7754, which is considered amongst collectors one of the rarest and most coveted chronography produced by Heuer. In production for the next 10 years, with a succession of different cases either taken from the Carerra or Autavia, It is believed that around 20 examples of the reference 7754 were made.

The Heuer reference 7754 has served as inspiration for the limited edition of 125 example of the 2017 Heuer Carrera Skipper. Co-designed by HODINKEE it served to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Emil Mosbacher’s victory at America’s Cup. A homage but not a carbon copy, the present Hodinkee Skipper incorporates key favourite design elements of the original 7754. The iconic faceted lugs, taken from the Carrera’s design features have been maintained thanks to a more modern "Glassbox" case which re-creates the vintage looks of a plexiglass. The original colour combination from the "Intrepid" has also been preserved, however a date window was added where the original version did not have one.

Presented in excellent condition, the dial’s vivid color scheme, overall sport yet historical looks make this watch extremely appealing.
