• Peter Speake-Marin founded his watch brand, Speake-Marin, in 2002, specializing in time-only and complicated watches featuring rare and unique dials that combine traditional English and Swiss watchmaking. Today, Speake-Marin is an established independent Swiss brand under new ownership since 2012, manufacturing bold, modern timepieces with impeccable craftsmanship. The Piccadilly was the first model to be offered by the brand.
• A unique piece entitled “Captive in Time”, this Piccadilly features a hand-made dial crafted by noted dial artisan and watchmaker Kees Engelbarts. A frequent collaborator with Mr. Speake-Marin, his engraved dials are set apart with his use of the Japanese technique of mokume-gane”, wherein multiple layers of different materials are compressed into one plate and then the design is carved into the multilayered surface. Engelbarts, whose name can be seen on the caseback, frequently utilizes Japanese motifs, particularly dragons.
• Depicting a dragon trapped within the dial, the coiled, scaled serpentine body of the dragon takes up the majority of the dial, with the variable-color metal darker in the background versus the lighter body of the dragon. His claws are out and jaw open – menacing and vibrant. Other unique combined efforts by Speake-Marin and Kees Engelbarts include the dragon-themed “Fighting in Time” and “Immortality”. Preserved in overall excellent condition and from the original owner, this unique Speake-Marin with artisanal engraved dial from a master artist presents a one-time opportunity for the discerning collector.
