- The present reference SBEN003 (SJE093) is a re-creation of Seiko’s, and Japan’s, first-ever professional diver’s watch, the celebrated 62MAS from 1965, which was revolutionary for featuring a quick-set date, and a water-resistance of 150 meters.
- Remaining faithful to its original, the watch has retained most of the details of the 62MAS but is enhanced with modern technical upgrades. The crown has been updated to a screw-down version which increased the water resistance of the SBEN003 to 200 meters. The crystal is now box-shaped sapphire crystal, and all hands, markers, date and the pip on the unidirectional bezel are filled with Lumibrite.
- The appearance of the watch is a loyal interpretation of the original. The typography on the dial is almost identical with the 62MAS, accentuating the retro style of the watch. Seiko fans would also be thrilled to find the same charismatic dolphin emblem engraved on the screw-down caseback, in the same way that they are stirred by sunray-brushed grey dial.
