Catalogue Essay
In 1967, Seiko released the legendary ref. 6215 - a diver’s wristwatch with monobloc case rated for an impressive 300m of water resistance – such as the one sold by Phillips in the Hong Kong Watch Auction: SEVEN. With their constant strive for excellence, the ref. 6159 was released by Seiko two years later.

The iconic monobloc case design of the preceding ref. 6215 was beautifully retained, while the caliber of the watch was significantly upgraded. Achieving an exceptional level of technical prowess, the 6159 series was fitted with a high-beat automatic movement (36,000 mph) with hack and wind functions, in contrast to the low-beat movement (18,000 mph) used in the preceding series. Most notably, the perk of having a high-beat movement is higher precision. High-beat watches also have a smoother second hand – a spectacle which would attract the attention of any watch aficionados.
