Catalogue Essay
• The Romain Jerome Moon Dust-DNA ‘Moon Cross Rider Tourbillon’, ref. TO.MG.FB.BBBB.00, is a remarkable and ultra-exclusive timepiece that merges avant-garde watchmaking with genuine space history. Launched in 2009 as the brand’s second major collection following the Titanic-DNA series in 2006, it pays homage to one of mankind’s most awe-inspiring achievements: the exploration of space. The collection features certified materials from the Apollo 11 spacecraft, which carried Neil Armstrong and his crew to the Moon on 20 July 1969, as well as actual moon dust embedded in the dial.

• The case is constructed from titanium and steel, infused with fragments from Apollo XI. Its carbon fibre bezel evokes the solar panels of spacecraft, while the cross and paws are crafted from rusted steel alloyed with fragments of the Soyuz spacecraft. The crown, shaped like a space tool, and the use of star-shaped screws further reinforce the watch’s cosmic inspiration.

• At the heart of the watch is a one-minute tourbillon, suspended without ball bearings and positioned at 6 o’clock—a technical feat that reflects the brand’s commitment to innovation. The dial, with its mineral structure embedded with genuine moon dust, mimics the texture of the lunar surface. The hands, inspired by the antennas of the Sputnik satellite, add a historical touch. Completing the design is a crocodile leather strap interwoven with fibres from an International Space Station (ISS) spacesuit, secured by a satin-brushed steel buckle.

• This present example, numbered 1 of a strictly limited edition of just 9 pieces, is presented in excellent condition. It offers a rare opportunity for collectors and space enthusiasts to own a timepiece that not only showcases exceptional craftsmanship but also embodies a tangible connection to space exploration. With its use of authentic spacecraft materials and actual moon dust, this watch is a true artifact of horological and cosmic significance.
