Catalogue Essay
• The Daytona Cosmograph is one of the most recognised and compelling timepieces available today. With a history stretching beyond the first Daytona released in 1963 to the pre-Daytona models of the 1950s, Rolex has continually sought to improve their performance, and adapt to changing social norms and tastes. In 1988, Rolex thrilled the public by introducing the first self-winding chronograph model in its history. The newly launched reference 16520 was powered by a derivative of Zenith's El Primero caliber, though substantially modified by Rolex. The reference 16519 introduced in 1997 was the white gold counterpart to the iconic stainless steel 16520.
• The reference 116519 was produced in the early 2000s and one of the first white gold Daytona models to use the upgraded in-house caliber 4130, replacing the Zenith movement. The model was offered in a variety of timepieces including this extremely attractive example with meteorite dial. Due to the unique nature of meteorite each dial has its own pattern giving each chronograph an individual look.
• The present watch is a “time capsule”, preserved in near new condition with original factory stickers on the case sides and caseback - except for some scratches to the undersides of the lugs from prior inspections. The watch is accompanied by its full suite of accessories.

Rolex
Swiss | 1905Founded in 1905 England by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis as Wilsdorf & Davis, it soon became known as the Rolex Watch Company in 1915, moving its headquarters to Geneva in 1919. Like no other company, the success of the wristwatch can be attributed to many of Rolex's innovations that made them one of the most respected and well-known of all luxury brands. These innovations include their famous "Oyster" case — the world's first water resistant and dustproof watch case, invented in 1926 — and their "Perpetual" — the first reliable self-winding movement for wristwatches launched in 1933. They would form the foundation for Rolex's Datejust and Day-Date, respectively introduced in 1945 and 1956, but also importantly for their sports watches, such as the Explorer, Submariner and GMT-Master launched in the mid-1950s.One of its most famous models is the Cosmograph Daytona. Launched in 1963, these chronographs are without any doubt amongst the most iconic and coveted of all collectible wristwatches. Other key collectible models include their most complicated vintage watches, including references 8171 and 6062 with triple calendar and moon phase, "Jean Claude Killy" triple date chronograph models and the Submariner, including early "big-crown" models and military-issued variants.
