Roger Dubuis has always had a distinctive approach to watchmaking, combining traditional Geneva craftsmanship with a more expressive and artistic vision. While the brand is often recognized for its complicated movements, its early Hommage collection also showcased rare decorative crafts, particularly hand-painted enamel dials. The present example is a beautiful representation of this side of Roger Dubuis, pairing a classical pink gold case with an exceptional miniature enamel scene.

The art of miniature enamel painting is among the most demanding forms of watch decoration. Each dial is painted by hand, with layers of enamel applied and individually fired at high temperatures. The process requires immense patience and precision, as every firing carries the risk of imperfections. When completed, the result is a dial with remarkable depth, vibrant colors and a lasting brilliance that cannot be achieved through ordinary painting techniques.

The present Hommage is distinguished by its finely executed enamel dial depicting sailing boats, a scene that gives the watch a unique personality and sense of movement. The detailed composition, combined with the warm tones of the pink gold case, creates a refined contrast between the elegance of a traditional dress watch and the artistic character of the hand-painted dial. The star-shaped indices are an additional exquisite touch.

Limited to only 28 examples, the present watch is particularly special as it is the first example produced in this rare series. Combining Roger Dubuis’ early independent spirit, exceptional enamel craftsmanship and limited production, it represents a fascinating chapter in the history of the maison and a highly collectible expression of modern Geneva watchmaking.
