Good to Know:
- Created in collaboration with Alain Silberstein and Grail Watch
- Prototype P4 from the Type 1 REV project
- Accompanied by its full accessories
The Ressence Type 1 REV for Grail Watch is a unique collaboration that brings together two very different approaches to contemporary watchmaking. Ressence founder Benoît Mintiens contributed the brand’s unconventional approach to displaying time, while Alain Silberstein brought his instantly recognizable design language, built around color, geometry and symbolism.
The watch follows the “Carpe Diem” theme, meaning “seize the day.” Alain Silberstein’s design draws inspiration from the memento mori tradition, using symbolic elements to represent the passing of time: a tulip for the hours, a skull for the seconds and a yellow triangle for the days of the week.
Based on the Type 1 Slim, the watch uses Ressence’s ROCS system, where the entire display rotates continuously rather than relying on traditional hands. The oil-filled dial enhances this effect, allowing the indications to appear closer to the surface while improving legibility through the curved sapphire crystal.
The present watch, prototype P4, represents an important piece from the development of this highly creative collaboration. While the final production series was limited to only 36 numbered examples, this prototype stands apart as an earlier version of the Type 1 REV project and offers a rare insight into the creation of the model. With its Grade 5 titanium case, unconventional display and Alain Silberstein’s artistic influence, it is a particularly rare and desirable example of independent watchmaking.
