  • Catalogue Essay

A beautifully executed offshoot of Patek's hobnail family of watches. I love that it has white gold sans serif applied markers instead of the usual black serif printing. It is a very modern, minimalist interpretation of a classic design. The porcelain dial and display caseback are two other great touches. - Mark Cho

To the new owners of the watches in the sale: The Armoury will custom-make the winner one of The Armoury’s signature garments as a gift. For further details please visit the link below.

    - The Patek Philippe ref. 3919 is most revered for its “Clous de Paris” hobnail pattern bezel that elegantly frames its time-only dial. Featuring an Atelier Réunis case, the model was delivered in variants of yellow gold, pink gold and white gold. During its successful production run between 1985 and 2006, three series of this reference were realised.

    - The present example is a white gold ref. 3919 from circa 1999, bearing a 1.8 million serial, which belongs to the second series. Boasting a lean profile and robust cailber, it is also fitted with a crisp white porcelain dial with small seconds and is complemented by roman numerals.

    - Offered in excellent overall condition with its Certificate of Origin, the current Calatrava ref. 3919 is an exquisite gentlemen’s favourite that speaks highly with suavity and sophistication.

    Patek Philippe

Since its founding in 1839, this famous Geneva-based firm has been surprising its clientele with superbly crafted timepieces fitted with watchmaking's most prestigious complications. Traditional and conservative designs are found across Patek Philippe's watches made throughout their history — the utmost in understated elegance.

Well-known for the Graves Supercomplication — a highly complicated pocket watch that was the world’s most complicated watch for 50 years — this family-owned brand has earned a reputation of excellence around the world. Patek's complicated vintage watches hold the highest number of world records for results achieved at auction compared with any other brand. For collectors, key models include the reference 1518, the world's first serially produced perpetual calendar chronograph, and its successor, the reference 2499. Other famous models include perpetual calendars such as the ref. 1526, ref. 3448 and 3450, chronographs such as the reference 130, 530 and 1463, as well as reference 1436 and 1563 split seconds chronographs. Patek is also well-known for their classically styled, time-only "Calatrava" dress watches, and the "Nautilus," an iconic luxury sports watch first introduced in 1976 as the reference 3700 that is still in production today.
