Patek Philippe

Ref. 5970J-001

A fine and attractive yellow gold perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch with 24-hour indication, moon phases, additional case back, setting pin, Certificate of Origin and presentation box, single sealed

Patek Philippe’s workmanship and technical expertise with serialised perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatches began nearly 80 years ago when the Stern family first released the reference 1518 in 1941. Following in a long line of now iconic timepieces, from the 1518, to the 2499 and the 3970, the reference 5970, first released in 2004, became a modern classic keeping the tradition alive.

With a 40mm diameter case, the watch is 4mm larger than its immediate predecessor the 3970, allowing for more space on the dial and achieving a cleaner look with easier readability. There is a fine symmetry between the individual parts giving the dial a perfect balance. The case was enhanced with rectangular chronograph pushers, something not seen since the 1518 and first series 2499 in the mid-20th century, along with the uniquely shaped lugs reminiscent of earlier watches like the reference 1579. The combined larger face, chronograph buttons and bevelled lugs all contribute to a wristwatch with a strong masculine appeal.

Patek Philippe produced the 5970 for only seven years when it was replaced by the reference 5270, which featured Patek Philippe’s new in-house chronograph movement, with the 5970 the last of the Lemania based movements. Research believes approximately 2800 examples were produced with those in rose and white gold made from 2004 to 2008 in approximately 1000 examples each. The yellow gold version, like the present example was only made in 2008 and production numbers are estimated at around 100-300 pieces, making the yellow gold version the rarest of all. Patek Philippe produced a platinum series from 2009-2010. The present example is fresh to the market and REMAINS FACTORY SEALED.
